One of the things which took some planning when my growing family was fast approaching the bed-not-cot stage was how to manage their needs and also continue to accommodate weekend guests. For anyone reading this with small children you will know that in order to keep some semblance of a social life without bankrupting yourself on babysitters you start going round to friends a lot for dinner – and taking the kids with you.

When they are tiny this is a very simple exercise – the usual guest bed with a travel cot at the side is pretty easy to manage, but as soon as the little darlings start climbing out of said travel cot you are in a whole other world.
