There are few things more pleasurable at the end of a long work day than heading to a fine pub and ordering a delicious beer or ale, perfectly refrigerated and carbonated. It’s just relaxation at its finest.

On the other hand, you’re paying quite a premium for that experience. A beer which might cost you less than a dollar if you were to buy it in a six or twelve pack could easily run your $6-10.00 each at your local bar, depending on what city you’re in and whether or not it’s happy hour. If you have to drive to the bar, there’s another issue as you need to be responsible and watch your beer/ale consumption carefully before hitting the road.

So, why not have at least a little of the pub experience in your own home? If you have a nook at your place, consider getting some comfortable, snazzy bar stools to go with it. We have it on good authority just about everyone looks better on a well made stool.

As for the beer taps, we admit that it takes a true blue beer lover with some dedication and disposable income to install a full bar-size tap with several brands in their own home. However, there are a number of outstanding kegerators which make it easy to have your own personal kegger with your favorite beer going 24-hours a day, every day. (Not that you should.) More modest products, like the Krups Beertender also claim to keep beer perfectly refrigerated and with just the right amount of carbonation.

Of course, you’ll have to take a number of factors into consideration, like time and money. Maybe you can handle the maintenance and really can afford to have one of the many fine full-on beer taps installed at home along with the very nicest bar stools. If not, most beer and ale aficionados can afford to spend a few hundred bucks on a kegerator or about $120-$130 on a Beertender-like system. The whole idea is to create the right atmosphere so that you and your friends, and other special people, can enjoy the fun and relaxation of a friendly pub right at home.

Moisture can be a big problem for homes and industries, especially since this can be a year-round problem. During winter months, it can be retained inside through the cold moist that works its way through ill-fitting doors and exterior windows. Also, if there is no insulation to the walls and ceilings, it will cause water to condense outside the walls in closets and small rooms.

If you do no protect your home or your business establishment, then chances are costly damage from rot, and possibly termite infestation, can occur. A moisture meter is an indispensable tool in every homes and industries.

In order to diminish moisture damage, an inspection of the establishment is very much necessary. This will also help you come up with solutions to allow the flow of fresh air under structures to keep the moisture level low. Moisture meters are designed to determine the moisture level of various building materials like roofing, siding, insulation, plaster, wood, drywall, tile and fiberglass.

Molds, rot and decay are all considered as structural and safety hazards but they can be controlled with weather proofing materials or an indoor humidifier. Home and industrial inspection with a moisture meter can help locate moisture that would not otherwise be apparent.

People who live in regional areas are often casual about security of their homes or belongings. Home security systems should be in place in both city and regional areas.

People who live in regional areas are often casual about security of their homes or belongings. Doors are left unlocked and alarm systems are not installed. However, just as in urban locations, thieves target homes which are insecure. Home security systems should be installed in both city and regional areas.

Photo: starmist1

Some reasons for home security in the country are:

Regional areas also suffer from break ins and home invasions.

Country areas are more isolated

Country homes are easily targeted because of loose security

There are fewer police resources in country areas.

Peace of mind is important whether in the country or the city.

1. Country Locations Suffer from Burglary

Although rates of burglary in country areas are lower than urban environments there are risks. For example in September 2011, a rash of burglaries plagued the regional city of Rockhampton, Australia. In the space of a month there were 42 reported break ins. This was an indication that thieves will target any area that is insecure.

2. Isolation of Country Homes

Many regional environments are sparsely populated with farms or homes separated by kilometres of empty space. In this situation it is difficult to have properties protected by neighbours as they are so isolated. Alarm systems can help in this situation because they can provide patrolled protection of premises and thus take the place of absent neighbours.

3. Regional Residents are Less Concerned with Security

Many regional areas do not have high crime rates. People who live in these areas are less likely to lock doors or garages. However home invasion and burglary are opportunistic crimes. Attitudes towards security are notoriously casual in the country and desperate criminals know this. It is therefore likely they will target streets and houses in these areas.

4. Regional Locations Have Fewer Resources

Regional locations traditionally have small police forces and little access to other services. The police also have to cover a wider area. Therefore when crimes take place it is less likely that police will be able to attend promptly. This encourages criminals who believe they are less likely to be apprehended if they commit a crime in a country area.

Home security systems remove this factor from the criminal equation. An alarm system combined with proper home security measures such as door and window locks will deter thieves from targeting the home.

5. Security Systems Ensure Peace of Mind

Alarm systems are easy to install and in combination with other common sense security systems are proven to deter criminals. For the protection of family and property it is wise to install systems in isolated areas. This means that residents can have peace of mind even if isolated from neighbours and police.

Security systems are an important way to deter criminals and also aid in apprehension. These systems can be installed effectively in urban and regional areas and country residents should consider their use as an essential part of their home or business security needs.

DIY is a tricky business. Making sure jobs are completed safely and with minimal fuss is a priority with any DIYer, but sometimes you need a helping hand to ensure this happens. This guide to safely installing curtain poles will do just that.

Image: Wikicommons: Nieuw

The first thing to check is that your curtain pole is the right size for the window over which you are planning to install it; if it’s too small you won’t be able to draw the curtains across the whole window, whereas if it’s too big, it will look strange and out of proportion. Once you’re sure your curtain pole is the right size, you can go about putting it up. For this you’ll need a stepladder, a drill, an electrical stud finder, a pen (or pencil), and a tape measure.

The first step is to assemble the curtain pole. Do this before you ascend the ladder because it can be awkward to assemble and it’s not something you want to attempt at a height. Once it’s assembled, you can mark with your pen (or pencil) where the holes will be drilled. Using a spirit level at this step will ensure the curtain poles are installed straight.

When the position is marked, you’re nearly ready to drill your holes. It’s a good idea to use the electrical stud finder first to make sure there are no wires hidden in the wall; drilling into a live wire is not safe. Once the positions are marked and you’re sure you won’t hit any wires, you can drill the holes and screw the curtain pole mounts into the wall.

Attaching the curtain poles is usually as easy as sliding them into the mounts, and aside from reattaching the curtains to the poles, this is the final step. Now you can pack away your tools, sit back with a cup of tea, and enjoy your new window dressings.

Great house warming gift ideas include gift hampers, bed linen, towels, pantry items, candles, rugs, kitchen items and candles.

When somebody has a house warming it is nice to turn up with a house warming gift, particularly if it is their first home. Buying a new home can be tough and then you have the problem of trying to furnish it and deck it out with all the items for your kitchen, bathroom, laundry, and then be able to afford to buy all the necessary food. You could make up a gift basket with items for a specific room, like a basket full of bathroom products, or give them a big gift hamper full of pantry staples, like flour, sugar, salt, spices and a good olive oil.

Photo: CaptPiper

Gift Hamper
A gift hamper makes a great house warming gift. You can buy them already made up and can choose from hampers with chocolates, coffee, teas, wine, cheeses, beer, biscuits and a whole range of different foods. You could also make one up yourself with the all the new home owner’s favourite food items.

Bed Linen
Having a change of bed linen is handy so that when one set needs to be washed you have a changed of sheets. Buy a fairly plain set rather than something with a big bold print because it is hard to know someone else’s taste and when choosing for a bedroom the choice is very personal.

Towels
It is nice to have plenty of towels in a household so you have a clean set when all the others are in the wash but you may have guests over and need additional towels.

Kitchen Items
You could put together a gift basket with different kitchen items like tea towels, wooden spoons, a soup ladle, a good kitchen knife, a chopping board and anything else that is handy in the kitchen.

Rug
A large rug makes a lovely house warming present, particularly if they have timber floors. It might be a good idea to find out what sort of colours and style they like so that you can get the right one. You can also get long rugs or hall runners for hallways.

Candles
Candles look lovely around the home and there are plenty of different shapes, sizes, styles, colours and those with scents to choose from. Buy a nice candle holder or votive for it to stand in.

Vases and Flowers
Buy a large vase or a series of different shaped vases and when you give the new home owners their gift also present them with some bunches of different flowers so they can use them straight away.

Pantry Items
Don’t underestimate how much new home owners will appreciate simple gifts like items for their pantry. It is expensive setting up a new home and if you are new to living on your own you can suddenly find yourself having to dash out to the supermarket or ordering take out for a while. Set them up with staples like tomato sauce, olive oil, flour, sugar, salt, spices, bread, milk and anything else you think they might need.

Gardening Tools
A set of gardening tools makes a great house warming gift along with some gardening gloves, a knee pad to kneel on when gardening and even throw in some plants or packets of seeds.

Barbecue Items
You might want to join friends and pitch in and buy a barbecue and then deck them out with barbecue utensils and some bottles of marinade.

To keep your house cool without air conditioning you can install security doors so you can leave the front door open to create a breeze or build a veranda around your home.

Rather than automatically turning on your air conditioning system this summer there are a few things you can do to cool down your house first. Even if you have to make considerable structural changes, like installing security doors, security screens or even building a veranda, you will start to notice that you rely on your air conditioning less in summer and this will led to a reduction in your power bill.

Photo: Jeremy Levine Design

Security doors
Having a security door on your front entrance will not only help keep your home safe but it will mean that you can keep your front door open in summer to let the breeze through yet still have your home locked and secure as you can leave the security door shut. Open the back door, the front door and your windows and create a breeze through your home which will significantly lower the temperature in your house as the air moves around.

Security screens
Security screens are great on your windows as you can keep them open during summer without worrying that someone is going to be able to break in, which is great during the night. They will also keep the pests out, such as flies and mosquitoes. Your view won’t be interrupted by the screens either.

Veranda
Adding a veranda to your home is a fairly big structural change but it is really worthwhile. It will give you somewhere to entertain guests comfortably during summer, create an area for children to play all year round out of the weather and it will also help keep your home cooler on the inside. As a veranda will shade your windows from the sun it will stop the sunlight from heating up your rooms and it will also stop the sun from beating down on your bricks which does increase the temperature inside.

Photo: Kamal H.

Curtains or blinds
Curtains and blinds make an enormous difference to the temperature within your home during the day. Before it starts to heat up shut your curtains or blinds to keep out the heat. Simply shutting your blinds will keep your home cooler for a lot longer.

Fans
Installing ceiling fans or using a standing fan will reduce the temperature by a few degrees as a fan will move the air about which makes it feel cooler. If you open your doors and windows and use a fan as well you will make it feel even cooler.

Shade
Planting plenty of shady trees in your garden that will cast a shadow over your house will also help keep the temperature down inside your house and reduce your need to turn on the air conditioner.

Photo: linda yvonne

Double glazing
You can have your windows double glazed which will help control the temperature inside your home. The windows have two pieces of glass and in between the glass the space is filled with either air or a special gas. The space helps trap the warm air therefore keeping it cooler inside your house. It is more expensive than a normal single pane of glass so you might want to put double glazing on windows that either faces the north or the west, when the sun is at its hottest.

You may think there is not much you can do to enhance a bathroom experience once the suite is fitted but I am here to tell you that is simply not the case! Get the accessories and homely touches right and you and your family will enjoy a much better bath-time all round. You can really go for it with fancy sound systems and even televisions but before you get carried away, think abut the basics.

Photo: jinkazamah

Towels are of course of primary concern! Fluffy, soft, absorbent, big enough for the task (!) and smelling fresh, all very important – matched into the colour scheme of your bathroom interior and even better. Products are key as well, especially for the ladies, there is nothing worse than getting into the bath and finding there is no shampoo available or someone has finished off your favourite face wash and left the empty bottle on the side. And I won’t even mention toilet roll – or the lack of it…

Storage solutions for bathroom items are many and varied so do your homework and choose the right one for the size of room and your lifestyle. Think about lighting as well – bright is practical to see for shaving or makeup, and moody for long soaks in the bath. Candles are great too, and another way to fragrance the room to create a wonderful ambience.

And the best till last – the absolute favourite thing in my bathroom is the mirror that never steams up; yes folks, amazing as this sounds the concept is actually ridiculously simple. I first saw one of these mirrors in a hotel in America and basically in order to stop the steam from the shower or bath steaming up the mirror the unit is fitted with a heat pad behind the glass which makes the surface warm. Physics was never my best subject at school but believe me, it works – no more wiping away steam in order to put your contact lenses in, hoorah! Wire the mirror in with the light fitting and it comes on automatically whenever you turn on the bathroom light, and there is less danger of leaving it on by accident either. Genius, everyone should have one!

John recently moved from his old apartment to a new one in Florida. Moving just doesn’t mean going over from one place to another. It also means shifting your things from one place to another. This means also shifting your gas connection and electricity connection as well as other connections. For a long time he did not know what to do with his water connection he had and PayTV. He had to continue paying on his water supply for a month even after he had moved to a different location because he could not organize properly.

Photo: Matt Brett

You need to be organized and plan your moving ahead of time so that you can successfully shift to another location. This means that besides the other things, you must also take care of water as well as other connections like gas and electricity. Before moving home get sturdy boxes in which you can pack your things. Get packing tapes so that things do not fall out of place. Arrange for a proper transport that will help you carry your things safely with you. Without these arrangements you cannot be successfully .

When you shift to a different location, pack all the things that you won’t need in a separate box and you may give them away to needy families. You may also want to donate some clothes that you know you won’t war again. Make sure you don’t pack glassware and anything else that is delicate with other hard things in your luggage. Things, which can break easily, should be packed separately while moving.

Gas and electricity can be transferred if you have chosen the right service provider. There are several retailers who provide instant service when you have to move from one place to another so that you don’t have to waste money on extra bills when you are not using the benefits at all.

It is also a great idea when you have got more over amount of furnishings on your new nice home and don’t have the space to store it yourself. Think about garages and basements which are good idea for brief time period storage area. You should try to fulfill this planning on your move so that unused belongings, can be stored somewhere else. Anyway, try to use moving boxes in place of anything else for packing objectives. The boxes are easier to be handled and they are also easier to be lifted and moved too.

Just because you live in rented accommodation doesn’t mean you can’t have the bathroom of your dreams. You might not want to invest time and hard earned money in a house which isn’t yours, and your landlord might even not allow it, but a few small changes can have a huge impact too.

Update your bathroom fittings
Chrome fittings that have lost their shine or have gone rusty will make the whole room look tired and shabby. Upgrading them will give a second life to the room, while choosing a matching set -for example toilet roll holder, towel rack, dish soap and toothbrush holder- will help you define its general atmosphere. And when you move house, you can easily take them with you and put the old ones back in place!

Replacing your shower head can make a big difference too, improving the look of your bathroom but also resulting in a more satisfying experience. If you don’t want to pay for a new shower head, try de-scaling your existing one to see if that improves the flow of water. Just soak your shower head in a white vinegar solution for a few hours and the limescale should dissolve, giving your bathroom a new lease of life.

Add personal pieces
A new mirror can transform the room by adding touches of brightness in new places. Select a style that matches your décor to put a stamp on your home, and don’t be afraid to try something drastically different. Choose from modern, clean lines to ornate, baroque frames or illuminated styles and give the room a quick and easy makeover. You can also express your personality in the room by putting up pictures and photographs, which many people don’t think of doing in a bathroom.

Free standing furniture can also be a great way to add character. Try strategically placing a decorative chair or linen basket in the room for a quick update. Furniture can be picked up relatively cheaply, either on the high street or second hand, but won’t alter the structure of your room, keeping your bank and your landlord happy. It will also give a bit of consistency in your life if you often move house, helping you feel home in a unfamiliar place straight away.

Rely on soft furnishing instead of paint
Soft furnishings can also be updated inexpensively, but will make a noticeable difference. A new shower curtain can alter the character of your bathroom, so that you can make the room lighter, darker or even add an element of novelty if you go for something quirky. Decals on shower enclosures or cabinets are also a tasteful way to add interest or modify the colour scheme, but can be easily removed when you move out.

If your window blinds have been bleached by the sun, or if you simply don’t like them, this is another area to update easily. Buying a new roller blind or curtains is a simple and inexpensive way to give your bathroom new life. From patterned to plain, blinds and curtains can alter a room and give it a lift. Matching your shower curtain and blinds with complementary towels and mats will finish off the look with little effort.

Don’t neglect the little details
Removing unsightly bottles and packaging by decanting your toiletries into decorative containers and dispensers will not only make the room look more tidy, but it will also add character to the room. You can pick up new containers from home stores, or older retro styles from second hand shops and boot sales.

There are number of designs and styles of heating fireplaces available in market which can easily increase the beauty of your home. They function with the help of natural or propane gas that is easily available in the market at very reasonable rate. Now days Gas Fireplaces are in huge demand because of their affordability and convenience. With the following mentioned benefits of gas fireplaces, you will certainly get a lot of information about them.

1. Easy To Use: Gas fireplaces are very easy to use. You can easily control the heat of fireplace with the help of a regulator or a remote control. Adjust the heat as per your requirements. When you are using gas fireplace then there is no need to worry about good fire and adding up of more logs when required. In full relaxing attitude, you can enjoy their heat.

2. Installation is easy: The size and location of the fireplace will determine the size of the gas piping you use. If your home is not already setup for a gas fireplace, then you will have to transfer your gas lines to the area in which you plan to have your gas fireplace installation. A fireplace is a cozy focal point in just about any room it is placed. Be sure to pick a location for your gas fireplace installation that is convenient, but still within the safety precautions of your home. It can be easily done by a licensed gas fitter. The trained person would vent it to the outside and the work would be done in just few minutes.

3. They are cleaner: All know that natural gas fireplaces are much better than the wood ones because they do not pollute the air and never produce the dangerous heat which is harmful to human body. They are also easier to clean because there is no ash, and wood chips to clean out on regular basis.

4. Affordable: Gas fireplaces are not too much expensive- everyone can buy it and they are more proper for homes as compared to wood fireplaces or central heating system. For effective warmth, ease of use, hygienic operation and good looks, you can’t go past gas fireplaces for a range of advantages that can’t be beaten by wood fires.

If you want to make your home warmer and cozier, I advise you should buy napoleon ventless gas fireplace as they are more convenient and easy to use. However you have to be careful and keep in mind above points before you go in for buying gas fireplace as gas pipelines are used which can be risky if not installed and maintained properly.
