Bedroom decorating tips

Posted by James Howlett

If you are thinking about decorating a bedroom, there are several important factors you should take into consideration before you begin. In order to end up with a bedroom you love the look of, make sure you take your time to get it right. In this article you can find out the most important steps to take before you begin decorating your bedroom, as well as some useful decorating tips for once you start.

Firstly, decide upon a theme. There are many interior décor themes out there to choose from, so the most important thing is to choose one that will reflect your tastes and fit with the look of the rest of your home. If you want to go wild you can choose a Mexican theme or a Wild West theme. Of course, if you are decorating your bedroom first, you can let whatever look you choose for this room dictate the theme of the whole home.

Classic and traditional styles are ideal if you want a homely, warm and welcoming bedroom. Choose key pieces such as antique lamps and cosy rugs to signify the look. Art deco is a quirky and fun look for a bedroom; choose retro children’s beds if you are decorating a young one’s bedroom with this theme. You’ll find a great selection at Sleepmasters.co.uk. If you are after a more modern bedroom, the contemporary design theme is the ideal look for you. Choose monochrome pieces of furniture and art to really finish off the look. The main thing to consider when choosing a look for your bedroom is whether you can live with it day in, day out.

Once you have decided upon a theme, practical considerations should be taken into account. How will you transport the furniture you need? Will you build your own bedroom flat pack bedroom furniture? If the latter, a great tip is to lay out everything in front of you before you begin to ensure no pieces are missing before you start.

When it comes to painting, wear your old clothes and cover the furniture and floor with old sheets and newspaper to avoid any messy painting mishaps.

Finally, leave yourself enough time and enlist the help you need from friends and family. There’s nothing guaranteed to scupper your plans for a beautiful bedroom more than a rushed job.

Two’s Company

Posted by James Howlett

We’ve had a happy accident in our house: baby number three is on the way and we couldn’t be more thrilled. Having thought we’d got past all those nappies, prams, sleepless nights and baby grows with the older two just at school. Now we’ve got used to the news we are really excited about doing it all again. There is just one problem… we have run out of bedrooms and really aren’t in a position to move house. The only solution is to convince our children to share a bedroom and convert the smallest bedroom into a nursery.

This may not sound too bad as many children share rooms and quite often really enjoy it. However, we have a little boy and a little girl rather than two of the same sex and so the idea is being received with mixed reviews. How do we reconcile pink fairy princess decorating ideas with a love of cars, robots and all things sporty? Bunk beds are an obvious answer to the space issue but this does not tackle the interior design problem. Read the rest of this entry »

What are the advantages of a single bed?

Posted by James Howlett

Whether you’re young or old, single beds can pose many advantages to you. Obviously, as their name suggests, they are a smaller-model bed. This means that regardless of the size of your bedroom, you’ll almost certainly manage to fit a single bed in it.

If you’ve got a spare box room to deck out, or a children’s bedroom, single beds can be extremely handy. As they take up less space, people do tend to buy them for kids primarily, as they don’t need to have as much space to sleep in. And, one of the best things is, if you purchase a single bed for your youngster, they’re not likely to grow out of it for some time to come, meaning less expense for you. A Touch of Gold

Posted by James Howlett

Sometimes only decadence will do in the bedroom, and if you are looking to create an opulent space to rest and recline in then you can’t go far wrong using the colour gold. Although a tricky colour to use over a large area, it is a perfect accent hue and can work well with a modern or traditional design scheme. Here are a few ways to add a touch of gold to your bedroom:

  1. In a white or monotone room, hang an ornate gold chandelier over the bed to create a visual centrepiece and beautiful lighting Read the rest of this entry »
