Did I say ceiling? Of course I meant wall… or did I?! A mirrored ceiling instantly conjures up unpleasant images of a dodgy 1970’s film with an oval bed covered in horrid red silk sheets, or at least it does for me – perhaps I am showing my age. However, I have recently seen small square mirrored tiles in a guest bedroom used in a funky pattern that spread up one wall and continued onto the ceiling. The effect was quite striking, and whilst you might not want to sleep in there all the time, it would probably be fun for the odd night.

Photo: qwz

The interior design for the room was mainly black and white and featured twin sofa beds piled high with faux fur cushions offering a tongue-in-cheek nod in the direction of the 70’s kitsch. On the wall opposite the mirror feature was a huge flat screen TV and the room was clearly set up as a den or second sitting room primarily with the sleeping arrangements thrown in as a clever extra.

Mirrors and beds are a funny combination: feng shui principals dictate that you shouldn’t have any part of your bed reflected by a mirror as it can invite trouble into your love life, and even without that disturbing thought, being able to see yourself in bed is not everyone’s cup of tea! Mind you some people do seem to revel in the idea – if you have seen the film ‘American Psycho’ you will know what I mean.

Most bedrooms do feature at least one mirror though as of course the ladies in particular require a dressing table as an absolute essential, ideally placed with ample natural light. Whatever your thoughts on mirrors in the bedroom, just think carefully about what they reflect so you know what you are letting yourself in for!

When you build the new house or buy the ready-made house, you have to aware of many factors for this decision like material, price, location, worker and other items etc. Some of you may ignore the little part of your house that’s housing insulation.

”

I’m thinking about this part because most of houses that were built before around 1975 don’t use insulation. So, for today, I’m not only suggesting for the new house owner but also for the person who just knew that your lovely house doesn’t use it.

Firstly, I have to tell you some more about the insulation for houses which refers broadly to any object in a building used as insulation for any purpose. While the majority of insulation in buildings is for thermal purposes, the term also applies to acoustic insulation, fire insulation, and impact insulation. Often an insulation material will be chosen for its ability to perform several of these functions at once.

Moreover, there are many benefits of insulation that you may never think before. The most obvious issue is saving money, for instance, you will pay lower utility bills because it help you to reduce heat which affect the air-condition processing. Also, you will feel that your home is so comfort especially for the old house that just used it, you will like the atmosphere in your own home for sure. Lastly, it’s also good for the environment and can lower the gases which are the cause of Global warming.

The effectiveness of insulation is commonly evaluated by its R-value. However, it doesn’t take into account the quality of construction or local environmental factors for each building. Construction quality issues include inadequate vapour barriers, and problems with draft-proofing. In addition, the construction properties and density of the insulation material itself is critical.

Not only the R-value that you have to concern in when you want to find some service but you should also consider many issues like quiet and clean installation, safety from fire or dust, mold and other harmful emissions etc.
