Today bunk beds are not only limited for dormitories, ships or army barracks, but they also find their way in homes as sleeping quarters for teens and children alike. Bunk beds, or “double deck beds”, are beds that are stacked to another to serve dual purpose.

For large families, bunk beds are not only space savers but they are amazing pieces for children since sleeping on them is like going on an adventure each night. This is also a good way for siblings to bond. Bunk beds are also much better than sleeping on couches and having back pains. Aside from costing less than buying single beds, there are lots of styles and designs to choose from in the market today.

There are even bunk beds that come with desks for students. The foremost consideration when choosing the right bunk bed is the occupant’s safety. It is a good idea to check if it meets the safety standards, if the guard rails run the length of the bunk on both sides and they fit securely, the mattress fit snugly in the bunk, all the edges and corners of the bed are smooth, check for its stability, if the ladder is easy to climb, and to look at the slats on the bottom to make sure they provide strong support and are securely screwed on the bed frame.

We’ve had a happy accident in our house: baby number three is on the way and we couldn’t be more thrilled. Having thought we’d got past all those nappies, prams, sleepless nights and baby grows with the older two just at school. Now we’ve got used to the news we are really excited about doing it all again. There is just one problem… we have run out of bedrooms and really aren’t in a position to move house. The only solution is to convince our children to share a bedroom and convert the smallest bedroom into a nursery.

This may not sound too bad as many children share rooms and quite often really enjoy it. However, we have a little boy and a little girl rather than two of the same sex and so the idea is being received with mixed reviews. How do we reconcile pink fairy princess decorating ideas with a love of cars, robots and all things sporty? Bunk beds are an obvious answer to the space issue but this does not tackle the interior design problem.

After a trip to Sleep Masters the small people are very excited about their new beds, and capitalising on this level of enthusiasm I have come up with an idea…In order to create a fantastic bedroom which will keep them both happy we are going for a fairytale castle theme. This may sound a bit girlie but throw in some brave nights on wild horses and a huge fire breathing dragon and the balance is redressed. The whole thing means getting a mural done on all the walls, showing princesses as well of course, but the expense of that is well worth it to see their little faces light up.

Fingers crossed we’ve cracked it – now all I need to do is get them both to sleep! Help…

People often forget the many hazards that lurk in the family home for small children. We purchase home and contents insurance to protect our home, but what about taking measures to protect our small children from possible dangers in our home? Here, we’ve listed some of the basic safety measures every parent should take in their home:

Photo: warrenski

Windows and doors- Use foam devices to place on doors to prevent finger jamming and to make sure that little ones aren’t able to shut windows on unsuspecting hands. If you have blinds with lots of chords hanging down, make sure they are kept high and away for little ones as these chords can be a strangulation hazard.

Locks on windows- For little climbers just finding their feet make sure that windows cannot be opened passed a certain point in order to prevent them from opening the window and possibly trying to explore and climb out.

Put child proof covers on all electrical circuits.

Put child locks on all of the kitchen drawers that have sharps like knives and other things like matches and scissors.

Make sure you have gates at the top and bottom of staircases. They should be gates that cannot be opened by small children and toddlers and should not come away from the wall if lent on. Stairs can be one of the major hazards in the home and these gates will stop any accidents so purchasing quality gates is vital.

Apply decorations to glass doors-Little ones can easily walk into a clean glass door or window. By having a small decoration on it halfway down, this will ensure they will know it’s there and will prevent accidents.

Make sure you keep hallways and exits well lit. An important step for the whole family, especially during the night when fumbling to the bathroom.

Make sure that floor rugs are secured to the floor by non stick grip pads to avoid kids slipping and sliding on them.

Try to not keep any clutter on the stairs. Stair cases that are obstructed are more likely to cause accidents for both children and adults as well.

Of course, there are also many hazards in the backyard. Pools in particular can be very dangerous to small children. Make sure that your pool has a certified gate installed to protect your family against any accidents.

Home insurance is so important to home owners to ensuring their home is protected. Ensuring child safety in your home should be just as important, leaving no hazard unprotected. Sadly, accidents in the home can occur, so you do need to make sure that your child is safe when exploring your home.

I hope our tips for some of the best ways to make your home child safe has given you some useful ideas on how to protect your little one, so you can relax and get on with enjoying your home.

You are always afraid of something happening to it. When you first have a newborn baby and you are very protective of it. So, when you are at home you should not be afraid of anything happening to it because you are there and it should be safe. Keeping your baby safe at home is very important.

First, prevent people from coming to your home that are going to smoke, or do any type of drugs, this is your first line of defense for your baby. Put child safety latches on all cupboard and cabinet doors under the kitchen or bathroom sink or anyplace you store medicine, cleaning supplies, garden chemicals or poisons. In the garage or storage shed, store all weed killers and chemicals in a locked cabinet and place the key in a location where your child cannot find it. To be safe, when you are at home by yourself lock all the doors, this is vital if you live in a big city.

Other than other people, to keep your baby from getting injured at home the best thing to do is a buy safety thing for all over the house. Prevention of problems will include the ability of the baby to walk away, or get to the swimming pool. Prevent problems in the home by locking doors, windows, cupboards and garages with locks that a baby or toddler can’t open. You probably would not want to have animals like a dog or a cat around your baby until it gets older.

A pet can maul a baby, or a toddler when the pet is not accustomed to being around children all the time. Avoid having a cat near the baby, so the cat doesn’t cuddle up on the face of the baby, which will then smoother the baby without your realizing what is happening.

When you put your baby to sleep at night make sure that it falls asleep on it’s back because of crib death. Crib death is when a baby suffocates to death. Also, keep loose blankets out of the crib. The crib is a place for the baby to sleep, not to play. The crib should have bars that are close enough, so the baby can’t slip through, and the crib should have bars so that the head of the baby can’t slip through and get stuck.

Avoid potential problems and situations where your baby could easily be hurt. Once your baby starts to crawl, the best thing for you to get is a walker to let it learn how to walk. If you have steps in your home, the ‘thing to get’ is those child gates. They have them at most department stores if you don’t know where to purchase them. This will prevent your child from falling down the steps. You could even use them in doorways to rooms that you don’t want the child in without you.

If you have animals, you could even use the gates to keep the animals away from the baby. Once your child starts to walk you should keep things back away from the edge of the counters and the table. If you drink coffee, you should definitely keep that away so it is not reachable. Any thing like this will help you keep your child safe at home. You should not let any thing that is small laying around because if you do so this it will help so that your baby does not choke on anything. Just remember to lock all the doors when you are there by yourself.

One of the best times of woman is having a baby. After women have to be pregnant for 9 months, they should also plan about the newborn. There are many things that both new mum and dad have to concern with childbirth. Anyway, don’t worry about it because it’s not delicate as you think. For today, I’d like to tell you about the stuffs that your baby really wants.

Firstly, I’d like to advise you to find the pushchair (Baby transport), a device used to carry an infant. If you want to prepare until your baby grow up as a small child (3 – 4 years old or more) on the body of an adult, you have to choose carefully for size and price because it’s not too cheap item.

Another important stuff is toys. I think it’s very good for your kids because it affects to their development. I know everybody want to have good and smart children. Not only for the parents but if you want to find some gift for kids, toys are also reasonable. It can be a wonderful gift for many ages, if you don’t know about the propriety in each age; you can read at the side of package or ask the salesman.

Moreover, if you want to find some present for new mum, I suggest the beautiful bouquet of flowers. Especially, if you are her husband, I assure that it’s the good moral support for her and it will show that you really appreciate in her and your baby.

Lastly, don’t forget to prepare the digital cameras to shoot an impressing time in your life. It’s a good luck that now the husband can stay with his wife while she deliver a child and I bet you don’t want to miss to take many photos with your beloved baby for sure.
