Cleaning your swimming pool is easier than ever these days due to the ever increasing amount of quality cleaning accessories. There are many tools to choose from, including skimmers, brushes, and vacuum heads. These tools make pool maintenance easier than ever, meaning that you can spend more time swimming and less time cleaning. The biggest aspect to keeping your pool nice and clean is to make sure that the care of your water is always up to date.

There are many water care products that you can buy, including balancing chemicals, sanitizes, chemicals to treat algae, stain treatment products, water testing kits, and saltwater systems. The more specialized tools that are used to clean swimming pools include leaf skimmers, leaf rakes, brushes, corner brushes, pool sweeps, grids and cartridges for the filter, motors and pumps, pool filters, and many more. Most of these accessories are a must have, especially for those who have trees around their pool.

Leafs in the water can be very annoying and distracting, and should be removed on a frequent basis. Normally, chlorine is used as a sanitizer, as it helps to get rid of and prevent any organic material that exists in the water. By using chlorine in your pool, you will greatly reduce the load that organic material puts on the filter. The regular maintenance of your pH balance and the right levels of alkalinity are also very important to keeping your pool clean. You should also make sure that you check your calcium as well. The pump that you use is also important, as it will prevent the waste of energy.

To make things easier on yourself, you can get an automatic pool cleaner that will do just about everything for you. To get the right amount of chlorine feed, you’ll need to use hand feeding or tablet feeding. This will ensure that you get the right amount of chlorine in the water. There are saltwater chlorine generators out there as well, which are one of the most popular ways to get the right amount of chlorine in your water. Chlorine is also important for protecting skin, although you should try not to swallow water that has chlorine in it.

Keeping your water clean is also healthy for your skin, and anyone else who gets in your pool. As long you use the proper cleaning supplies and products with your pool, you’ll be able to enjoy fresh and clean water whenever you decide to go swimming. You can get a pool testing kit for a little of nothing – which will more than pay for itself when you decide to check your water. You should always make sure that you have cleaning supplies on hand, and check your water on a frequent basis.

When it comes to bathroom remodeling or just about any other home improvement project, many individuals automatically think of the materials that will be used. If you are looking to replace your bathtub, of course, you will need a replacement bathtub, but how will you get that bathtub installed without tools? You can’t. That is why it is important to know what you tools you will need before starting your next bathroom remodeling project. When it comes to tools, you will find that the tools used with all depend on the remodeling that is being done.

Photo: Tiago Salgado

For instance, if you are planning on remodeling your entire bathroom, you will likely need more tools than you would if you were just replacing your bathroom cabinets. Despite the fact that different bathroom remodeling projects often call for different tools, you will find that some tools can be used on just about all bathroom remodeling projects. It might be a good idea to keep these tools, which are listed below, on hand at all times. One of the many tools that you will want to have on hand, when remodeling your bathroom, is a pair of pliers.

Pliers are one of those tools that you may need to use on a regular basis, not just for a kitchen remodeling project. Therefore, there is a good chance that you already have a pair of pliers in your home or on your tool belt. It is also advised that you have a tape measure on hand, when preparing to start your next bathroom remodeling project.

Whether you are looking to install a new light fixture or tile your bathroom floor, a tape measure could come in handy. In addition to a tape measure, you may also want to make sure that you have a level. Using a level with a tape measure will not only help to ensure that your cabinets or wall hangings are centered, but that they are also level. Another tool that you should always have on hand, when remodeling your bathroom, is a screwdriver.

Photo: chrismetcalf

In fact, unless you have a multi-function screwdriver, you may even need to have to have more than one screwdriver on hand. Even better than a multi-function screwdriver is a screw gun. Screwdrivers are a great, yet simple way to help speed up your next bathroom remodeling project. It is also advised that you have a ladder on hand, when remodeling your bathroom. Ladders are used to help reach high places.

If you need to paint your bathroom ceiling or even replace your bathroom lights, you may need to use a ladder. In addition to a ladder, it may be a good idea to keep a small stepstool on hand. Stepstools are great for helping you reach high spaces that are high enough to need assistance, but not high enough to need a ladder. Stepstools are also nice because most tend to take up a relatively small amount of space.

Moreover to all of the above mentioned tools, it is also important to place a focus on safety. If and when you go out to purchase new kitchen remodeling tools, it is advised that you also purchase some safety equipment, especially if you don’t already own some. Safety equipment includes, but is not limited to, work gloves, construction hats, face masks, and safety goggles. The above mentioned kitchen remodeling tools and safety equipment pieces are just a few of the many items that you may need.

Photo: Gustavsberg

For an accurate list of tools that may need to be used during your next bathroom remodeling project, you are advised to review the remodeling projects that you have scheduled, as well as their directions. Doing so is the best way to not only know what to expect, but also to know what tools you may need to go out and buy.

When the long time ago. Maintenance and repair jobs are constants. To save time and money, plan for the seasonal needs of your home, yard, and garden. Simple procedures for making home repairs and performing home maintenance are covered. Removing stains from carpets or upholstery and from other surfaces is included as is the cleaning for a wide variety of finishes found in the home.

Maintenance – An Important Act For Home Gadgets
By Brian Ayling

There are items that we buy items that are not usually part of our necessities. They can be add-ons to make living better. Most of the time, the items that we buy (apart from food, water, basic clothing and shelter) can cost more than your budget. However, since our wants can outweigh our needs at times, you can still find ways in order to afford such wish.

Photo: bakcon.com

One example of a want is to make your house extra safe. At some point, you might find your locks not enough to keep intruders. This is why some people resort to install security cameras and alarm systems. This can put your house in the extreme level of security that way the possibility of being aware to what is going on in every inch of your house is attainable. At times, you might think what other features you can add on your homes to save it from fire. This can lead you to install fire-protecting devices to be prepared in cases of fire outbreak. Automatic sprinklers, smoke detectors and extinguishers are the items of choice. These gadgets may cause a lot but definitely, when you find it valuable in your everyday life, you go to extremes to preserve these items.

That is why items like fire suppressing devices must go through fire extinguisher maintenance. It should be scheduled and done in a fixed interval in order to ensure quality performance when the situation arises for its service. Even security cameras need to have regular check ups, to see if the wirings are still good to use. All electronic gadgets and other mechanical devices need to be checked for all possibilities of malfunctioning. You do not want to render these devices useless at times when you need it.

Also, bear in mind that having it maintained can really cost you. It all depends on the item and the required interval for its check-ups. Some may come free for a particular time others can discount it for you. Nevertheless, it is important that you come prepared for the additional expenses before you bought the product. If your security cameras are malfunctioning, you might pay an electrician to check on the wirings. If the water from the sprinklers are leaking then you might opt for a professional plumber to check on your water system. All these services will require money because you have to pay the person for the job done and with the use of their expertise.

Fire extinguisher maintenance, IT visits, plumber calls and other sorts of means in calling people to seek for professional help can really cost you money. You can complain, especially when replacements occur, but it is the best thing to do. Therefore, to understand everything about maintenance, bring in mind the purposes of doing such act:

1. To check the functionality of the item

2. To replace the damaged parts

3. To ensure safety of the users

4. To update users of the newest trends in the market as well as upgrades

5. To gain additional knowledge that way the next time you can save yourself some money and do confidently some manageable failures of the product
Having specialized in the fire extinguisher maintenance for over 20 years, Brian now works tirelessly to promote affordable fire safety for home and for business.

Siding is the outer covering of a house to protect from the effects of weather. It may be formed of horizontal boards or vertical boards, shingles, or sheet materials. In all four cases, avoiding wind and rain infiltration through the joints is a major challenge, met by overlapping, by covering or sealing the joint, or by creating an interlocking joint such as a tongue-and-groove or rabbet. When the time go along. Their would be cleans.

Properly Cleaning Your Siding
By Kathleen Whitlow

Cleaning the siding on your home can be a tough job because of the fact that you don’t want to mess it up. You most likely paid a nice chunk of change for that siding to be installed and you should keep it looking as clean and as new as possible.

Photo: onlinetips.org

The most efficient means of cleaning your clean vinyl siding is to rinse it with the hose that you use to water your garden, grass, or flower beds. Make sure to use a nozzle on the hose and to not use high pressure when beginning to clean the siding. If you use pressure that is too high it could damage the siding. The water is also able to seep into the wood sheathing of framing of your home which could in turn cause water damage to the home.

Besides using a hose you can always use something that you have right inside your home to clean the outside of your home. Using the liquid detergent that you would wash your dishes with is another means of cleaning your vinyl siding.

You can use this in the same way that you would to wash a vehicle. Just get a large bucket, pour some of the soap into the bucket and then fill it with the water from the hose or with medium temperature water from your faucet inside of your home. Make sure to rinse the mixture off of the house when you have finished so that it doesn’t leave residue on your home. It is especially important to do this when the soap has been in the sun so that it doesn’t dry. This means that you should only work on small portions of the house at a time so that you can make sure to clean it properly.

When rinsing your home you should use the hose, and again make sure that it doesn’t spray at to high of a pressure on the siding. Point the hose towards the bottom of the house when spraying as well so that the suds and water can rinse downward.

After you uncover the logs in your old log cabin what do you do? I mean with the logs specifically? I mean to preserve them. Time’s up.

Photo: swedishlogcabins.info

With the logs in my place there was a lot of embedded dirt and plaster. In other words the logs looked like crap when they were uncovered. What to do?

There were wonderful axe marks in the logs that showed that made you feel the hand hewn work. They showed character and helped to add to the historic look of the house. I didn’t want to loose that but I wanted the dirt off.

I talked to my contractor and asked his advice. Sine I knew there were some simple things (I call it idiot work) that help expedite the work on the house and to cut down on expenses (in other words I was in a rush and was afraid of how much all the work on the house would cost).

He advised me to purchase a drill attachment for your drill ( if you don’t already have a drill you should get one). This attachment looks like a wheel with wires coming off it. He said I could go over all of the logs and it would gently clean off the logs. It seemed like the perfect solution.

The work was slow and tedious. It made me redefine the term “idiot work” as not just something anyone could do but as someone that was an idiot to take on the work.

I went over all the logs in my house (not me personally, but I helped). It is a dusty procedure but then almost everything in rehabbing a house like this is.

My contractor want to take a belt sander to the logs to take off the top layer of the logs-gotta watch those guys. They can be sneaky and many of them just don’t understand no matter how much you explain. Besides it appeals their macho side to use those heavy power tools.

I was glad I took the time to gently clean off the logs. We found some writing on one log. I was never able to really read it or figure out who could have written it. If I had allowed the contractor to have his way, I would have never made the discovery.

After you get all the logs cleaned off, the logs need to be treated with a clear preservative. It is a special flat lacquer so it did not make the logs shine. Your local hardware store can show you what to use. This finish will make the wood slightly darker but will permanently protect the logs unless it is sanded or washed off.

Remember when you are working on your house that many things were done by hand not by powertools. You are not just working on a house but a work of art made by craftsmen using antiquated ways.

I would love to tell you that you have a house that is easy to rehab but it takes work, alot of work so roll up your sleeves.

Save Expenses With Our List of Fall Home Maintenance Ideas

Fall is a busy time. Now is the time to winterize and our fall home maintenance ideas can help you to:

*Keep the value of your property
*Get your yard and garden ready for next spring
*Do outside preventive maintenance before harsh winter takes its toll
*Do inside preventive maintenance to reduce heating bills
*Have furnaces inspected

Seed your lawn to replenish grass in bare spots as well as to fertilize the grass. Nutrients will seep into the soil over winter. Your grass will be stronger and fuller in the spring.

Your fall home maintenance ideas should include cleaning gutters. Leaves become a pesky nuisance if they collect and clog your gutters, which can result in water running over the edges and can cause roof damage if the water freezes beneath your shingles. Clean gutters and apply any gutter guards, such as screens. Leaves and other debris won’t collect and block gutters. Water will flow off the roof and through downspouts.

Replace any missing gutters to prevent water from collecting near the foundation which can cause leaks and your house to sink or settle. Pressure from frozen ground may push basement walls, causing cracks. Replace any missing downspouts as well.

Check windows for cracks and leaks. Replace cracked glass and any loose glaze or window putty. Check window frames and sills for a proper and tight fit. Caulk any warped spots or loose spots to prevent heat loss. Clear plastic can also be used as airtight cover inside windows. Double sided tape around the window frame holds the plastic securely in place.

Insects love leaf piles as a place to winter and multiply. Remove leaves near your house or foundation to reduce insect pest problems inside your house in the spring. Prune rose bushes and peonies. Peonies can be cut to the ground. Rose bushes should be pruned to the woody parts of the rose stems – about 6 inches or more from the ground.

Now is the time to plant tulip, daffodil, and crocus bulbs for spring gardens. Tulips and daffodils are planted 6 inches deep. Crocus bulbs can be planted a few inches over tulips and daffodils. The crocus will bloom first in the spring, followed by the tulips and daffodils.

Having your furnace inspected is a must for your fall home maintenance ideas. If you live in areas of freezing temperatures or below, drain your hose and store it. Water left in the hose may freeze, causing your hose to split. Window air conditioners in these climates should be removed or covered for the winter.

Electric outlets and light switches on exterior walls can let drafts rob you of your warm heated inside air. Special thin Styrofoam insulation template pieces, found at most hardware and home improvement stores, are made just for these drafts. Simply remove the light switch or outlet cover, insert the Styrofoam insulation template and put the cover back on. These fall home maintenance ideas should help you all winter.

A subsoil basement need to be concerned about basement waterproofing. Because it is defined as preventing water from penetrating into your basement area. Keeping the water out of your basement will limit the amount of mold and mildew that can occur in your basement area.

Basement Waterproofing For Mold and Mildew
By Paul R Turner

Many homeowners don’t think about basement waterproofing projects until they are faced with a significant flooding emergency involving large amounts of unwanted water entering their home after a large rainfall or other natural occurrence. While solving these immediate water damage emergencies are important, large cracks in your basement walls and potential flooding problems are not the only dangers that face homeowners due to moisture in the basement. In fact, most water damage caused in basements isn’t due to large floods, but instead due to small amounts of moisture seeping through the block walls over long periods of time.

Photo: waterproofingcontractors.ca

The soil surrounding your basement always has a certain amount of water in it, which can increase or decrease depending on the time of year, rainfall and other factors. If you live in a dry western state, you may not have much problems with soil saturated by groundwater, but residents of coastal communities, the northeast, or the Pacific northwest may have serious problems with it. Saturated soil causes hydrostatic pressure on your basement walls and floors, which over time can push water through the blocks and cause some substantial damage.

Block walls can actually act like a sponge, soaking up water over time and allowing it to bleed through into the interior of your basement. In many cases, you can see evidence of this creeping water damage from white streaks on your walls. This, in addition to moisture in the air inside of your basement, can lead to the growth of dangerous black mold and mildew. And while mold and mildew can be killed using bleach or other products, only through a proper basement waterproofing job can you ensure that it won’t return in the future.

Basement waterproofing to stop mold and mildew can be done both on both the interior and the exterior of your home. While specialized sealants and polymer coatings on the inside of your walls may stop the water damage problems for a little while, the only real permanent fix is to make sure that the footer drains on the outside of your home are properly installed and serviced to move excess water away from the home. By installing modern footer drains, you can stop water from ever reaching your basement floor and walls in the first place, effectively ending the need for interior basement waterproofing.

Mold and mildew can pose serious health risks to you and your family, not to mention the fact that they are unsightly and ugly to look at. By using all the best modern techniques available to waterproof your basement, you can get rid of dangerous mold growth once and for all. While you may need to make a small initial investment of time and money to properly waterproof your basement, it will add a lot of value to your home and may help prevent big repair costs in the future, as well.

Termites are a group of social insects usually classified at the taxonomic rank of order Isoptera. Termites mostly feed on dead plant material, generally in the form of wood, leaf litter, soil, or animal dung, and about 10% of the estimated 4,000 species are economically significant as pests that can cause serious structural damage to buildings, crops or plantation forests and your wood structure home too.

The Problem With Termites
By Gary Ashton

A huge problem that is common for almost all homes is the fact that they are susceptible to termites. Termites are the bane of homes, these little bugs have the ability to reduce a home to sawdust in a remarkably short period of time. If you have never had a termite inspection it is something that you may want to look into. Now there are a few misconceptions about termites that should probably be looked at to better inform the home owner: they do not actually live in the wood parts of your home. Like another home nightmare, mold; they require a moist atmosphere in which to thrive. However wood equals food for termites and a home is like a all you can eat buffet.

Photo: timber.org.au

Another thing that is a bit of a misconception about termites is that a concrete foundation is not a deterrent for these pests. It is truly amazing the minuscule size of an opening that these invaders need to get through something. It can be as tiny as 1/64th of an inch, so checking the foundation for cracks on a regular basis is a good idea. One thing that they do not like is exposure to negative environmental conditions and construct “tubes” that are used to get from one area to another. These tubes are an early indication that there are termites in your area. Once inside a home it is almost impossible to know for sure if they are there as damage is usually internal and does not show until the wood is damaged enough to change it’s outward appearance.

Currently there are a few ways of preventing access to your home to termites. As I stated before a simple concrete foundation is simply not enough. Current technology employs sunken poison barriers sometime utilizing soil and more recently plastics to effective bar entrance to homes. If they have already invaded the home then a full-scale fumigation may be in order if the infestation is bad enough. Don’t hesitate to contact a professional if you think you may have an infestation on your hands. The longer it is left the greater the damage to your home can be. Consider all of your options when dealing with these pests as there are new methods for dealing with being developed constantly.
