How Can Sliding Doors Save Space in Your Home?

Although sliding doors have been around for many years, they are a relative newcomer when it comes to using for practical reasons within the home. After years of having a simple “that’ll do” attitude towards our homes, many of us have recently discovered a passion for interior design and are more house proud than ever before.

As well as making our homes look great, we’re also thinking more about how to make the most of them. Sliding doors play a key role in this. Not only do they look brilliant, but they can be useful when it comes to saving space, too. Here are some ideas for using sliding doors within your home.

Hidden Kitchens

The kitchen is one of the rooms in the house where we tend to have many things gathered. While there might be a use for some of them, we also tend to use the kitchen for storage of things like books and ornaments. If you have a rustic kitchen, for example, then such belongings might add to the ambience and design of the room.

However, more often than not the kitchen ends up looking cluttered and like you’ve put things in there because you felt bad storing stuff in the attic or in the cellar. By using sliding doors in front of your kitchen fittings, you can keep everything that you don’t want on display all the time hidden away. You could even extend this to the whole kitchen so all of your appliances are hidden. This is a particularly great idea if your kitchen doubles as a dining room and you’re fed up of looking at the washing machine when you eat!

Practical Bedrooms

You have lots of friends and a large family, but because you don’t have a spare room, you can never have guests stay at your home. One great way to deal with this is to utilize any dead space within your home; vast areas under the stairs are particularly useful, as are any alcoves that don’t suit any furniture or any particular purpose in your home.

Converting these areas into mini-bedrooms – all you need is a bed or bunk bed in here – and covering them with sliding doors is practical and a quirky idea that visitors will love. Also, imagine telling a guest that they’ll be sleeping under the stairs next weekend. They’ll be intrigued.

Wardrobe Doors

Speaking of the bedroom, your biggest one is able to take advantage of space saving to the fullest extent if you decide to use sliding wardrobe doors. You probably don’t realise how much space you lose by having to keep free certain areas for swinging doors, and you’ll feel the benefits straight away! You’ll also find that you manage to keep your wardrobe tidier if you have sliding doors; we’re not sure what the scientific reasoning behind this is, but you’re sure to be thankful when you need to find a shirt quickly on the days you’re late for work!

Sliding doors have great potential to save space in your home and make your life easier. What’s more, they also look brilliant and will add much to your interior design.
