As much as most of us like to consider the festive season around Christmas and New Year’s a time of peace and goodwill, the sad fact of the matter is that crime rates actually spike around this time. In Australia, the silly season falls smack bang in the middle of summer, so it’s doubly likely that we’ll be away on holidays leaving our homes empty. When choosing a fridge you really need to think about your lifestyle.  Whether you have a big family, if you eat out a lot, if you live alone or if you entertain often, all these factors will determine what sort of fridge you will buy.  There are  many different models and styles of Westinghouse fridges available and there is sure to be one to suit your lifestyle and your budget.  Remember to include your fridge in your contents insurance in case it was to become damaged or destroyed due to a possible disaster, like a house fire, flood or major storm damage.

Family fridge

If you have a large or growing family then you are going to need a larger fridge due to having to have more food in the house.  If you a couple planning on have children one day it is a good idea to buy a bigger fridge from the start because if you buy a good quality appliance it will last you many years and you don’t want to have to buy a new one due to running out of space.  Choose a fridge with a larger freezer, whether it is on the top or below the fridge section, or even think about buying a separate chest or standing freezer.  It is convenient and works out cheaper to be able to buy meat in bulk and store it.  If you have a new baby it can also save time to make food up in bulk batches and freeze it. You need to think about how you arrange the food in your fridge.  Not only will you find you have more space but it also stops foods from contaminating each other which can sometimes ruin foods and even make you sick.  For example you don’t want your any raw meats touching your dairy products or milk dripping all over your vegetables.  You need a big enough fridge, like a Westinghouse fridge, so that you can sort your food out properly.  When buying a new fridge buy the best you can afford and also thing about whether it will be big enough in the future, for example you may end up entertaining more often or even expanding your family.  Things like fridges will be include in your contents insurance.

Group things together

It is best to group food types together in your fridge so that they don’t contaminate each other but also so you can find things easily.  Keep the vegetables in the vegetables crisper and if you have a separate drawer for cold deli meats and raw meats keep these away from the rest of your food.  Have a shelf dedicated to your dairy foods, such as your butter, cheese, yoghurt, cream and extra milk.  Keep left overs together too and it is also a good idea to attach a label with a date to left overs as it is easy to forget when things are made and when they should be eaten by.
